I’m gonna keep it brief this week, mostly due to the fact that I don’t have all too much to say. Most of what I’ve been playing that is relevant to class is still just EVE Online. However, my trial is now on its last legs and I will be forced to find something new. I’m looking for a new MMO to try next, but before that I’m still hoping to find something in EVE that really sticks with me. I’m honestly trying my damndest to like this game, to want to go back each night and accomplish something, but there just hasn’t been anything to hook me…
Like I said last week, I’ve been struggling with the tutorial, trying to figure out just where the devil I’m supposed to go to play the rest of it. The tutorial agent is stubbornly refusing me work and the only thing I’ve been doing in the world is mining and while that might be fun for some, watching my little ship circle around asteroids while I press the F1 key and rotate the mouse is no fun for me at all. I thought that maybe, just maybe, I had found something fun when I earned enough money to buy a better ship for mining, but that ecstasy died quickly when I saw that any better purchases would require hours of menial work, something I play games to avoid.
As for P2P interaction, there hasn’t really been any. I applied to a corporation and was accepted but then nothing happened. I tried chatting to other miners but none of them were interested in chatting with a newbie (with one particularly unpleasant fellow taking that as cause to attack me and destroy my ship…). I don’t really have any friends and nobody has been all that receptive to at least talk to. When I dock to a station I try and take part in some friendly banter but doing this makes me feel as awkward as if I butted into a group’s conversation in real life.
I think I’ve got a week left in EVE and I’m gonna keep trying to make the best of it. Maybe I’ll figure out the tutorials and find where exactly the fun in this game has been hiding. I’ve gotten some basic mining certificates so maybe that’ll be enough to join a mining corporation. Who knows. I might post pics next time but I just don't feel like doing that right now.
